Bio Statement

Dr. Flavia Nelson is an Associate Professor of Neurology at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis and the new Director of the Multiple Sclerosis Division. Prior to that she was the Interim Director of Multiple Sclerosis at the University of Texas Health Science Center (UTHSC) at Houston where she co-directed the MRI-Analysis Center.

Research Interests

Dr. Nelson's research interests include advanced imaging techniques for MS related to cognitive impairment, a field in which she is a pioneer. Her recent research on combined advanced imaging techniques and functional MRI for MS related cognitive impairment has advanced the field. Her investigator-initiated research has been NIH funded. She received the NMSS Entrepreneur award to create the MS attack app which helps patients identify relapses; this has been recently updated to track symptom severity over time and has been released as MS Relapse Tracker, currently available to all patients.
