Bio Statement

Dr. Manousakis is an assistant professor of neurology at the University of Minnesota, and his practice is primarily affiliated with the University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview, where he sees patients with ALS, immune neuropathies, and inherited and acquired myopathies. He also studies muscle and nerve pathology and performs EMG examinations. Dr. Manousakis is a member of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and was recently named one of America's Top Physicians by the Consumer Research Council of America.

Research Interests

Dr. Manousakis' research interests center around ALS. He is particularly interested in clinical trials, mechanisms of neurodegeneration, and the role of mRNA molecules as biomarkers of the disease. He is also interested in studying the treatment of immune-mediated polyneuropathies and myopathies.

Research Projects

Dr. Manousakis was previously a co-investigator in the second phase of an extension study of rasagiline in ALS, and he recently served as the sub-investigator in a study of the safety, tolerability, and activity of ISIS SOD1Rx to treat Familial ALS caused by SOD1 gene mutations.
