More Information

Bio Statement

I graduated from the King Edward Medical University in Lahore, Pakistan in 1995, and I decided to move to the United States to pursue my post graduate training. I completed my residency in Psychiatry at the New York Medical College/Westchester Medical Center where I also served as Chief Resident in the final year.

After completing my residency I moved to Minnesota and worked as Medical Director at Lakeland Mental Health Center (LMHC), Fergus Fallsfrom 2001-2005. At LMHC I established an academic affiliation with the Department of Psychiatry, University of North Dakota and arranged for a clinical rotation for senior residents.

In 2005 I moved to Minneapolisand joined the Department of Psychiatry at the Minneapolis VA Medical Center. I served as Medical Director of the Psychiatry Partial Hospitalization program. At the VA I got interested in the field of Sleep Medicine and decided to do a fellowship in sleep medicine. I was awarded Bush Medical Foundation fellowship to pursue training in the field of sleep medicine and to expand sleep medicine services at the VA.

I completed my fellowship in sleep medicine at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN in 2009 and came back to the Minneapolis VA. At the VA I served as a sleep physician and Medical Director of the schizophrenia treatment team from 2009-2013. I also graduated from the VA Midwest Health Care Network Leadership Development (LEAD) program, an 18-month organizational leadership training course offered by the VA.

In 2013 I moved to the Hennepin County Medical Center (HCMC) and was appointed Medical Director of the Minnesota Regional Sleep Disorders Center. I enjoy working with my colleagues at HCMC and at the University of MN, and I love the field of sleep medicine because of its multidisciplinary nature, which allows me to collaborate with colleagues from various disciplines. I am interested in improving multidisciplinary care for patients with sleep disorders, and I also enjoy teaching and am heavily involved in training sleep medicine fellows.
